Ilford Depot began undergoing considerable redevelopment as part of Crossrail's wider expansion programme. The completed Crossrail will circumnavigate 38 stations, from Maidenhead through 13 miles of tunnel underneath London to Shenfield in Essex.

The Depot acts as an integral area for maintenance of Crossrail trains and is helping to increase London based rail transport network capacity by 10%. In order for Crossrail services to deliver it's commitments around 60 new trains will be required, making the Ilford Depot pivotal in facilitating those targets.
