Agent – Major Infrastructure Project (MOD Site)
Location: Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard
Rate: £430–£490 per day (depending on experience & qualifications)
Schedule: Site‑based, Monday to Friday
Eligibility: British Nationals only (due to the nature of the works)
Clearance: BPSS and SC required (processed during onboarding)
About the Opportunity
Carmichael UK is recruiting an experienced Agent to join a major high‑security infrastructure redevelopment programme at a Royal Navy facility in Plymouth. This is a significant long‑term project within a live MOD environment, demanding strong technical leadership, compliance focus and exceptional delivery capability.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all works within your section of the project are delivered safely, in accordance with specification, on programme and to the required quality — while supporting commercial performance and leading your team effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Technical Oversight
- Ensure works are delivered in full compliance with design specifications and project requirements.
- Lead site engineering teams to ensure accurate setting‑out prior to construction activities.
- Oversee programming of works, resource management, and productivity.
Commercial & Cost Control
- Take accountability for P&L performance across your allocated work area.
- Monitor target vs actual costs, assist in forecasting, and support monthly/quarterly commercial reporting.
- Ensure accurate recording of labour, plant, materials and supply chain resources.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Support and enforce project H&S procedures and site standards.
- Maintain high personal safety standards and set the benchmark for your team.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor and develop your direct reports.
- Communicate effectively with design teams, commercial staff, planners, supervisors, supply chain partners and client representatives.
- Maintain strong working relationships across internal and external teams.
Programme & Quality Control
- Monitor progress against the agreed programme and construction methods.
- Identify risks, delays or shortfalls early and implement mitigation plans.
- Ensure RAMS and QA documentation are produced and maintained to required standards.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Relevant construction qualification (NVQ Level 3 / HNC / Degree / Management qualification).
- SSSTS or SMSTS.
- Strong experience in reinforced concrete and heavy civils.
- Experience using Leica Total Station, GPS and digital levelling equipment.
- Proven experience leading technical teams on complex construction projects.
- Awareness of commercial processes and reporting.
- Understanding of Quality Management Systems and writing RAMS.
- Excellent communication, organisation and team‑leadership skills.
Desirable
- Temporary Works Supervisor experience.
- Previous nuclear or high‑security project experience.
- Experience delivering reinforced concrete structures.
Security Requirements
Due to the sensitivity of the project:
- British Nationals only can be considered.
- BPSS clearance required (approx. 8 weeks).
- SC clearance required thereafter (approx. 4 additional weeks).
