Carmichael are looking for an Agricultural Liaison Officer to join the team to work on a major highways project based in Bedford.

The purpose of the role will be the interface between the project team and landowners, particularly within the agricultural community.
 

As the ALO you will act as the primary point of contact for the landowners, building on the positive relationship and acting as a channel for all contacts between the project team and its stakeholders.

  • Provide direction, organisation, and leadership for agricultural related aspects on the project including land drainage, land hand back and soil management.
  • Provide expertise and support on agricultural and land management to facilitate access, way leaving and possession of land
  • Organise and attend site visit meetings with landowners, their agents, legal teams, and other stakeholders and provide meeting records for upload to a landowner and stakeholder communications database
  • Work with landowners and their agents to agree accommodation works, ensuring the resolute tracking of agreed changes
  • Report progress to stakeholders regularly ensuring reasonable satisfaction and expectations are met
  • Discuss and agree with landowners the location and installation of proposed infrastructure on land during the design process, including being able to explain the requirements and constraints applicable during such decisions.
  • Work closely with the District Valuer to agree compensation

We’re looking for:

  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in land management, agriculture, or land agency demonstrating a detailed understanding of land use, agricultural planning and operations, land ownership, and rights.
  • Understanding of the construction environment and operations with an appreciation of soil management, drainage, and reinstatement
  • Experience working with a major design consultancy and major contractor
  • Excellent communication skills
  • An ability to influence and implement best practice internally
  • High levels of resilience and adaptability
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure collaboration with the farming community
