Contract Appointed Person: £330/day + holiday PAYE

We’re looking for an experienced Appointed Person who knows how to get the job done, and done well. You will have particular expertise in lifting on major projects

This role is for working on a major construction project at Devonport Docks in Plymouth, and will be long term work 

Key tasks will include: 

Planning and Organisation:
Assess the lifting requirements for the project or task at hand, considering factors like load weights, dimensions, and site conditions.

Develop a comprehensive lifting plan, which includes identifying the appropriate lifting equipment, rigging arrangements, and safe working procedures.

Ensure that the lifting plan complies with relevant regulations and standards, such as LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).

Risk Assessment:
Conduct a thorough risk assessment to identify potential hazards and risks associated with the lifting operation.

Implement control measures to mitigate identified risks and ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and the surrounding environment.

Selection of Lifting Equipment:
Choose the right lifting equipment for the task, considering factors like load capacity, reach, and stability.

Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and certified for safe use.

Scheduling and Coordination:
Develop a schedule for lifting operations, considering project timelines and site logistics.

Coordinate with all relevant parties, including crane operators, sligner/signallers, and other stakeholders, to ensure a seamless and safe workflow.

Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive records of all lifting operations, including lifting plans, risk assessments, equipment inspection reports, and any incidents or near misses.

Ensure that all documentation is up to date and readily accessible for inspection by relevant authorities.

Competency and Training:
Ensure that all personnel involved in lifting operations are competent, adequately trained, and certified for their respective roles.

Provide ongoing training and support to personnel to keep their skills up to date.

Communication:
Establish clear lines of communication and an effective signalling system to ensure safe coordination between the Appointed Person, crane operators, and ground personnel.

Communicate any changes or updates to the lifting plan promptly to all relevant parties.

Safety Compliance:
Ensure that all lifting operations comply with local and national safety regulations, including LOLER, CDM (Construction (Design and Management) Regulations), and any site-specific safety guidelines.

Monitoring and Supervision:
Continuously monitor lifting operations to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the lifting plan and safety procedures.

Intervene if any unsafe practices or conditions are observed and take corrective action as needed.

Incident Response:
Develop and implement procedures for responding to lifting-related incidents, including accidents or equipment failures.

Investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Review and Evaluation:
Regularly review the effectiveness of the lifting plan and safety procedures, adjusting as necessary to enhance safety and efficiency.

Conduct post-operation debriefs to gather feedback from the team and improve future lifting operations
