Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) – Concrete Contractor - North East - Contract - Outide IR35

About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Appointed Person (AP - Lifting Operations) to join a leading concrete and reinforced concrete contractor working on major infrastructure, civil engineering and construction projects across the UK.  This role will be based in the North East.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, managing and overseeing all lifting operations, ensuring compliance with current legislation, industry standards and company procedures. This is a key role supporting the safe delivery of complex concrete structures, including formwork, falsework, reinforcement, precast units, steel works and heavy plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed lift plans in accordance with BS 7121.
  • Plan and coordinate all lifting operations on site.
  • Assess lifting requirements, crane suitability and ground-bearing pressures.
  • Select appropriate lifting equipment and accessories.
  • Develop method statements and risk assessments for lifting activities.
  • Liaise with Site Managers, Project Managers, Crane Suppliers and Subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER and current health & safety legislation.
  • Carry out site visits and crane positioning assessments.
  • Review and approve lifting arrangements for complex and non-routine lifts.
  • Provide technical support to site teams during lifting operations.
  • Investigate and report lifting incidents and near misses where required.
  • Maintain accurate records and lifting documentation.

Requirements

  • CPCS Appointed Person (A61 or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of BS 7121 and lifting operations legislation.
  • Experience writing lift plans for concrete, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of mobile cranes, crawler cranes, tower cranes and lifting accessories.
  • Ability to assess ground conditions and crane loadings.
  • Experience producing RAMS and technical lifting documentation.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working on major infrastructure projects.
  • Temporary Works awareness.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
  • Experience with reinforced concrete frames, bridge structures or heavy civils.
