Successfully trading for over 25 years and working with top-tier clients within the Construction Industry CarmichaelUK has gained a reputation for always "placing people first". Our Trades & Labour Division have secured a number of key Infrastructure contracts across the UK and we are currently looking for a Carpenter/Joiner Apprentice for HS2 sites in the Buckinghamshire area. These roles will be very long-term, HS2 is due to run for around 8/9 years currently.

This Apprenticeship programme is in partnership with EKFB and The Skills Centre. EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market-leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall.  All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high-speed rail projects.
 
EKFB has been appointed by HS2 Ltd to deliver civil engineering works across an 80km section of the new high-speed rail link between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood. Its scope of the works includes 15 viaducts, 6.9km of green tunnels, 22km of road diversions, 81 bridges and around 53 million cubic metres of earthwork movement.

This is an excellent opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship to become skilled in joinery/carpentry. There is a great opportunity to receive job-specific training and to gain recognized industry qualifications as well as to be able to work towards creating a good understanding of drawings and general arrangements drawings, specifications and British standards. 

Skills you will learn:

  • Become familiar with system formwork and traditional formwork
  • Work safely and securely in compliance with given information, organisational policies and procedures, and current health, safety and welfare legislation including following the procedures for working on contaminated ground
  • Conform with productive working practices and complete the work in accordance with the programme of work
  • Interpret and follow verbal and written work instructions from supervisors and site managers
  • gain the ability to work from drawings
  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
  • Understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools
