BMS Controls Lead
Carmichael UK is currently seeking a BMS Controls Lead for the Devonport Docks Project in Plymouth on a long term inside IR35 basis.
Due to the site being a high Security Military Naval base, additional security checks will need to be made – BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and have been a UK residence for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.
Your day to day will include:
- Oversee the operation and installation/commissioning of all BMS systems across multiple sites or a large-scale facility.
- Lead a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring effective delivery of all planned and reactive maintenance related to BMS.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Energy Management, and Sustainability teams to support carbon reduction and energy efficiency goals.
- Provide expert advice on BMS design, specification, installation, and commissioning for new projects or refurbishments.
- Identify and implement opportunities for system optimisation and cost savings through data analysis and performance monitoring.
- Manage third-party service providers, ensuring SLAs and compliance standards are met.
- Ensure BMS systems remain secure, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant regulations and best practices.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation related to BMS operations and projects.
- Lead fault-finding and diagnostics for complex system issues and provide technical support to the wider team.
Who are we looking for?
- Proven experience in a similar BMS Controls Manager or Senior BMS Engineer role.
- In-depth knowledge of BMS platforms such as Trend, Siemens, Schneider, Tridium/Niagara, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, electrical engineering, and building services.
- Experience with energy management systems and sustainability initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics.
- Familiarity with relevant UK legislation and health & safety standards (e.g. SFG20, CIBSE, ISO standards).
Desirable:
- Degree or HND/HNC in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- IOSH or NEBOSH Health & Safety certification.
- Experience in a highly regulated or complex environment (e.g. nuclear environments).
Rate inside IR35 as dependent on experience
