My client, a main Joint Venture on HS2, is seeking a Buried Services Coordinator (Locator) to bolster their team. This role is based in Birmingham, for at least 12 months and a great opportunity to work on one of the most prestigious projects in Europe.

Description of Activities to be undertaken

  • Brief the contents of the permit to dig to the operational team undertaking works and to show work areas and positions of utilities, reinforcing risk control measures to avoid known services with plant and equipment and the requirements of any exclusion and easement zones imposed by utility owners.
  • The Service Locator will undertake a physical check and review survey drawings, in line with their training, to determine the location of both identified / unrecorded services. Shall be responsible for the mark-up of known services on site and advising on any exclusion zones required for all overhead and underground services.
  • The construction team will be informed by the services locator, where specific trial holes are to be dug to establish the exact location and type of service identified. Periodic scanning will be undertaken in 300mm sweeps through out excavation.
  • Maintain Utility Demarcation Measures where appropriate.
  • The appointed Service Locator will undertake a thorough survey of the area where the activity is to take place with an appropriate CAT & Genny.  A ‘Genny’ will be used where they suspect circuits are on timers and for locating non energised services, e.g. gas and water, even if it has been established from drawings that there are no recorded services present. Carry out periodic scanning to ensure area remains clear of services.
  • Complete relevant Excavation Inspection Register.
