Our client a leading Civil Engineering contractor requires a Chief Estimator to join their team on a permanent basis.
You will be based from their central London offices.
 
As the Chief Estimator you are responsible for the tender cost estimate for the project, including the preparation of all the required commercial workbooks, activity schedules and or cashflows etc within the commercial submission The Chief estimator coordinates and integrates all the cost estimating efforts in the tender team, ensuring the correctness and completeness of the project estimate. He produces and explain the top sheet in the Board meeting as required.
 
Key Responsibilities:
As part of business development department, helping with bids for new contracts, preparing and submitting quotations for work.
▪ Close collaboration with technical team and other members of the tender team to undertake a cost estimate of the different work packages (cost direct) and associated preliminaries
▪ Coordinating other estimators as required
▪ Researching materials, equipment and labour costs.
▪ Getting in contact with, and gathering quotes from, subcontractors and suppliers.
▪ Contribution to Project risk assessment, estimating cost associated to all risk items and indicating the levels of risk associated to each work packages arising from the cost estimate exercise
▪ Preparation of the top sheet and presentation in the Board meetings
▪ Between tenders, maintain regular contact with company’s supply chain, analyse company data and build and update database of production rates, exchange rates and prices, and monitor projects delivery to ensure alignment between database and actual project delivery result
 
Technical Competencies required:
Expert understanding of estimating and construction methodology
▪ Ability to develop and estimate top down and bottom up
▪ Ability to apply IT systems relevant to estimating
▪ Ability to use BIM modelling to create cost estimate models
▪ Strong numerical and data analysis skills.
Ability to use QRA and other sensitivity modelling software
