We’re currently seeking an experienced Civil or Structural Project Engineering Manager for a freelance opportunity on a major demolition project. This position is ideal for someone with strong design coordination skills, particularly in temporary works and lifting operations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering design activities, ensuring temporary works designs are reviewed and signed off appropriately.
  • Plan and allocate engineering resources effectively to meet project goals, ensuring high productivity and efficiency.
  • Make sure all engineers are fully briefed on the scope, design basis, budget, and schedule.
  • Manage design interfaces across project partners and the supply chain.
  • Handle contractual communications, support progress and risk meetings, oversee cost reporting, and manage design team actions.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on engineering performance.
  • Maintain a strong commercial focus, challenging scope changes and preventing uncontrolled expansion.
  • Apply company engineering processes, including design strategy, deliverables tracking, scheduling, and governance.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks early, escalating issues as needed.
  • Ensure all engineering services meet client and company standards and gain necessary approvals.
  • Build strong working relationships across teams through clear communication and collaboration.

 

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Solid understanding of temporary works and lifting operations.
  • Proven experience managing a similar project
  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Familiarity with UK technical standards and global best practices.
  • Strong leadership in process safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Deep knowledge of project controls including scheduling, cost, risk, and change management.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work from the Manchester office at least three days a week and travel to site in Gwynedd.
  • Willingness to travel to client offices, project sites, and supplier locations.

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with CE marking for plant and equipment.
  • Strong technical and business software skills.
  • Background in civil, structural, and infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience in demolition projects.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering. (Essential)
  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of a professional institution.
  • Project management accreditation (e.g., APM).
