MEICA Works – Commissioning Engineer
CarmichaelUK are looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a MEICA / MEP project at Heathrow Airport.
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the primary role of the individual will be to deliver the refurbishment of the Heathrow Tunnels connecting Terminals 1, 2 and 3 to the M4. The rehabilitation requires knowledge of all MEICA disciplines but predominantly requires knowledge of electrical engineering and control systems.
The works consist of:
- Substations and MCC’s.
- Tunnel Lighting
- Tunnel Ventilation – Jet Fans
- Tunnel Fixed Fire Suppression System – Water Mist
- Linear Heat Detection System
- Automated Incident Detection System/ CCTV
- Leaky Feeder Radio System
- PAVA
- Traffic Control System – VMS and Traffic Lane Control Signs
- Integration with external Traffic Systems
The individual will have extensive MEICA experience, with a hands-on background in electrical engineering, testing/ commissioning.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work through design information to fully understand the scope of work and how systems are designed to work.
- All plant and equipment is controlled by a PLC based Tunnel Control System (TCS). The tunnel control system is provided by a system integrator experienced in the operation of road tunnels.
- The individual will be expected to follow a commissioning plan which integrates the TCS control system with other performance and mechanical/ checks on a system by system basis.
- The individual will follow cross system tests for inclusion in the commissioning plans.
- The individual will follow design tests that demonstrate the system reaction to various faults – power supply, equipment failure and system faults for example.
- The works require the transfer of old plant and equipment onto new electrical/ control systems. Method statements and plans will need to be prepared for a managed migration from old to new.
- The individual will coordinate resources to undertake and ‘witness’ testing works.
- The individual will follow a system to record and track commissioning works.
- Prepare or ensure method statements are in place for the commissioning works.
- Ensure a safe environment is in place for the commissioning works and liaise with the ‘permit office’
- Hold/ attend site coordination meetings and plan/ schedule activities.
- Direct specialist subcontractors on site activities as appropriate.
- Liaise with the client and develop a good trusting relationship
The Individual
- Degree/ HND qualified engineer in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Control Systems.
- Cumulative 10 years’ experience and competency in Industrial Control Systems or Road Tunnels.
- Cumulative 10 years’ experience and competency in a Commissioning Managers Role.
- The candidate should be familiar with PLCs, PLC I/O, motor starters, relay logic, simple traffic control systems.
- The individual should be able to configure instrumentation and drives by reading the appropriate manuals.
- The tunnels are in operation and intrusive works will need to be undertaken during night shifts. There will be some nightshift work.
- The candidate must have good communication skills and be well organised.
- The candidate should hold a valid ECS/CSCS card
- SSSTS or SMSTS would be a bonus
