CarmichaelUK are looking for a Design Coordinator to join a tier 1 contractor who is delivering the Bank Station upgrade on a permanent basis.
The project comprises of a new entrance, three ticket halls, six lifts, 10 platforms, two 94m travelators, 570m tunnel and platform for Northern Line
 
As Design Coordinator you will have:
Responsibility for co-ordination of the design across all the disciplines and interfaces, and working together with the 5No. Technical Leads – Structures, Premises, MEPC, Fire, and Third Parties.
Responsibility for leading on design aspects with regard to co-ordination, submission, compliance, programming and management of design, engineering and assurance. Principal contact for the design of the whole of the works in accordance with clause X21 (Single Point Design Responsibility).
The Permanent Works Design Coordinator supports the Permanent Works Design Manager to manage, co-ordinate, integrate and certify, on behalf of the Contractor, that the works have been constructed in accordance with the Contractor’s design.
Assisting the (Structures) Technical Lead with design calculations and checks as may be required and where the designs are within the competency of the Design Coordinator.
 
Accountabilities / Key Responsibilities:
Permanent Works Design Development and Coordination
To work in accordance with the Design Management Plan (DMP).
To develop the design to achieve a safe, buildable, operational and maintainable asset that is compliant with Standards and meets the Project Requirements.
Technical responsibility for release of design deliverables and surveillance of project design process.
Assisting with reviews of all deliverables to the Client, giving confirmation that the deliverable can be released to the Client or Third Parties, including the Design Compliance submissions to LU.
To assist with design coordination across all the technical disciplines – working together with the Design Manager – ensuring that the various Technical Leads are brought into any design reviews and design development as may be required.
To manage the design interfaces with assets and structures affected by the works either directly or indirectly.
Manage the Design Change process through Compliance Engineering Change Notices (CECNs) and Field Design Change Requests (FDCRs), ensuring that the process is followed and all decisions are fully recorded in an updated Design Change Register and Design Change Notices; and that any agreed changes or remedial actions are properly implemented, controlled & monitored on site.
Prepare design briefs for in-house Permanent Works Design packages.
 
Permanent Works Design and Checking
(Structural) Design calculations and checking for permanent works to be used on the Project where they accepts to bear the design liability.
Assisting the (Structures) Technical Lead as may be required so that they are able to check, manage and provide assurance for their design disciplines.
 
Permanent Works Design Assurance
Supports the Permanent Works Design Manager to manage, co-ordinate, integrate and certify, on behalf of the Contractor, that the works have been constructed in accordance with the Contractor’s design
Supports the Systems Engineering and Assurance Manager to manage and certify that the works have been constructed in accordance with the Contractor’s design and the Project Requirements.
To assist the Permanent Works Design Manager to ensure that the works have been designed in accordance with the Project Requirements and taking into consideration the constraints detailed in the Contract.
Monitor the necessary evidence to support the Interdisciplinary Design Reviews (IDR), Interdisciplinary Design Certificates (IDC) and the progressive technical assurance process.
To assist the Permanent Works Design Manager to ensure that the design supports the works and the operation of the Underground Network through all phases of the Project.
Coordinate the Concessions process and provide assistance to the design teams.
Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process between the London Underground, Construction team, Engineering team and the Design Consultants.
 
Reporting, resource and competency management
To assist with the coordination of the members of the Design Management Organisation, including supply chain consultants, in all tasks related to Permanent Works Designs, to ensure an optimum product is being delivered, including administrative assistance and tracking for the design review processes.
To review the design programme – keeping a register of potential risk and opportunities and ensuring the Engineering Change Control process is implemented.
Provide input into the Permanent Works  Design & Engineering section of the monthly Period Report
 
Experience, knowledge, qualifications & training:
Mandatory:
Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
Experience in working in multi-disciplinary engineering projects
Excellent organisation and people management / team building skills.
Have excellent communication (written and verbal), management and organisational skills.
Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically an Engineering discipline.
Excellent presentation skills.
A good working knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and other relevant legislation.
Well-developed IT skills including a working knowledge of BIM and the use of collaborative platforms.
Desirable:
Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
Previous experience working in urban areas
Previous experience working for London Underground
