We are seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer to join a growing civil engineering team based in Swindon. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and civil engineering projects across highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, and development schemes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the production, coordination, and review of engineering designs from concept through to construction, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, client requirements, and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop civil engineering designs for a range of infrastructure projects.
- Produce detailed calculations, technical drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Design highways, drainage systems, earthworks, utility diversions, and associated infrastructure.
- Work closely with project managers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Undertake design reviews and value engineering exercises to improve project outcomes.
- Ensure designs comply with current legislation, industry standards, and health and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and utilities engineers.
- Support project delivery from feasibility and concept stages through to construction and completion.
- Attend site visits, surveys, design meetings, and client presentations as required.
- Provide technical support during construction and resolve design-related queries.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience working as a Design Engineer within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector.
- Knowledge of highways, drainage, earthworks, utilities, and development infrastructure design.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage or similar packages.
- Understanding of relevant design standards including DMRB, S278, S38, S104, and Sewers for Adoption.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or equivalent).
- Experience delivering projects for local authorities, developers, or major infrastructure clients.
- Knowledge of BIM processes and digital engineering practices.
- Familiarity with project management and design coordination procedures.
