Carmichaels are seeking a Design Manager to work on a highways project involving structures in London.

  • Key Roles and Responsibilities will include:

    o    Ensuring the prompt delivery of the Detailed Design,

    o    Producing performance data metrics and dashboards, with both leading and lagging indicators,

    o    Reviewing design deliverables for quality purposes,

    o    Building constructive relationships and trust with key design personnel so that shared information can be used to support them in on-time delivery,

    o    Working with the design and construction teams to ensure that modern methods of construction are identified and embedded in our design proposals,

    o    Working with the design teams and the Design Manager to ensure that safe designs are delivered with DM risks appropriately identified and communicated,

    o    The development and management of robust working practices to support the design and teams to deliver a safe, efficient and production focused design.

    o    Confirming that the design teams have both adequate and planned levels of resource on each task

    o    Supporting the designer and Document Controller in the prompt and efficient of information between the design teams and Client teams commenting on and approving designs.

    o    Contributing to the preparation of design stage forecasts and budgets and cost reporting.

    o    Identification of threats and opportunities associated with the detailed design delivery.

    About you:

  • Civil Engineering related qualification (HNC, HND, BSc MSc, BEng, MEng). Professionally qualified or working towards.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience delivering infrastructure projects including:

  • Knowledge and experience of Highways Construction Knowledge and experience of highway structure repair and refurbishment.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • The ability to manage and control tasks  

  • Experience in some or all of the following: Complex Traffic Management Working within logistically constrained areas – urban environments.

  • Knowledge and understanding of temporary works.

  • Knowledge and understanding of a good range of highways structures disciplines.

  • Hybrid working considered with typically 3 days per week, in the team’s project office in Central London with  visits to Client, Designer, and site.
