We are looking for a Design Manager to lead and coordinate design activities for a complex enabling works programme to support a Tier 1 Contractor working on Sizewell C. This role is central to ensuring design assurance, buildability, and safe delivery across earthworks, utilities, pavements, and concrete packages.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will oversee and manage all design deliverables throughout pre‑construction and construction, ensuring integration across multidisciplinary enabling works packages. Responsibilities include:
- Leading the design process for earthworks, utilities, pavements, and concrete scopes.
- Coordinating designers, consultants, temporary works teams, and delivery engineers.
- Reviewing design information for buildability, safety, and programme alignment.
- Managing design approvals, change control, RFI processes, and technical governance.
- Producing and maintaining design trackers, interface schedules, and technical risk registers.
- Supporting site teams with design clarifications, methodologies, ITP input, and technical briefings.
- Ensuring compliance with client specifications, standards, CDM, and project execution plans.
- Liaising with planners, commercial teams, and project leads to ensure integrated delivery.
About You
- Proven experience as a Design Manager, Design Coordinator, Technical Manager, or have worked up to a delivery Agent or Project Manager level in civil engineering.
- Strong background in earthworks, utilities and diversions, pavement construction, and reinforced concrete structures.
- Experience supporting or delivering enabling works on large infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of temporary works, constructability, engineering assurance, and design compliance.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Engineering background (Civil Engineering degree or equivalent).
