Purpose of the Role

The purpose of the Transport  Rebuild East Coast Alliance (TREC) is to restore the state highway and railway networks in the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne Regions impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. Furthermore, the alliance exists to build resilience into the network to minimise the impacts of future events. The Alliance’s purpose is to ensure a regional centric approach that respects and engages with iwi, council, regional suppliers to support a local recovery. The purpose for this position is to provide assistance and support with the appropriate environmental, systems, processes, and infrastructure to ensure compliance with Environmental & Sustainability standards and best practice across large value projects.  In addition, the role will work with the Sustainability team to ensure that appropriate Sustainability systems and processes are in place.

Responsibilities

  • Work constructively as a member of the Alliance, taking an active role in supporting the maintenance of Environmental & Sustainability standards to ensure that the Alliance achieves its environment targets, and regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Working with Head of Environment & Sustainability to set Environmental outcomes
  • Leading a team of Environmental Advisors to ensure environmental standards and industry best practice are achieved within the alliance
  • Ensure the project environmental objectives are successfully achieved. 
  • Provide responsive and accurate Environmental management services.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of the Environmental & Sustainability goals and objectives.
  • Support a culture of “Safety & Health above all else” including Environmental responsibility.
  • Consult and influence across the wider Alliance team to reinforce ‘best for project’ decisions. 

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience as an Environmental professional, preferably 5 years in the construction industry working across $100m+ projects.
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental management, or engineering, or related field or qualified by experience.
  • Experience during the bid phase or ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) providing advice on environmental risk, authorisations or approvals.
  • Able to work with planners to ensure RMA approvals are in place.
  • Able to work with different disciplines to ensure all environmental, ecology, archaeology and sustainability risks and opportunities are considered during project development
  • Strong interpersonal skills and organisational skills.
  • Advance level in MS Office especially Excel.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
