We are seeking an experienced Ecology Advisor to support environmental compliance and ecological management on the HS2 project in Aylesbury. The role will involve providing expert ecological advice to construction teams, ensuring works are delivered in line with legislation, HS2 environmental requirements, and best practice standards while minimising ecological impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ecological advice and support to site and project teams throughout all phases of construction.
  • Ensure compliance with ecological legislation, licences, consents, and HS2 Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMRs).
  • Undertake ecological inspections, monitoring, and audits across construction sites.
  • Support implementation of ecological mitigation measures including habitat creation, protected species management, and pollution prevention.
  • Review and contribute to RAMS, method statements, and construction environmental management plans (CEMPs).
  • Liaise with environmental managers, contractors, ecologists, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and site briefings on ecological awareness and best practice.
  • Support protected species licensing requirements (e.g. bats, great crested newts, badgers, reptiles).
  • Maintain accurate ecological records, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Respond to ecological incidents and support investigations and corrective actions.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working as an Ecology Advisor or Ecologist on major infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning requirements.
  • Familiarity with HS2 environmental standards or other large infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience undertaking ecological monitoring, mitigation, and site inspections.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence construction teams positively.
  • Competent in report writing and digital record management.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Membership of CIEEM (or working toward) desirable.
  • CSCS card required.
  • Protected species licences advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence.
