Carmichael UK are seeking an Electrical AP to work on the Devonport Docks project in Plymouth on a long term basis (Inside IR35)

The Electrical Authorised Person (AP) is responsible for ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of electrical systems within the organisation. The AP will oversee electrical work, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and manage electrical permits and authorisations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management: Ensure all electrical work is carried out safely and in compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Permit Issuance: Issue permits for electrical work, ensuring that all necessary safety precautions are in place.
  • System Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and inspection of electrical systems to ensure their reliability and safety.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments for electrical work and implement measures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Training: Provide training and guidance to electrical staff on safety procedures and best practices.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate electrical incidents and accidents, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of electrical work, permits, inspections, and incidents.
  • Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency response procedures for electrical incidents and ensure readiness for electrical emergencies.
  • Communication: Liaise with other departments and external agencies to ensure effective communication and coordination of electrical work.

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

To be eligible for appointment as an Authorised Person, the prospective Authorised Person should have 2 years practical experience within the company;

  • Be electrically qualified and have at least one qualification within the following range:
  • degree;
  • HND/HNC;
  • OND/ONC;
  • BTech 4 or 3;
  • C&G (level 2 and 3);
  • NVQ at level III or above; or
  • Assessment of competence by the Authorising Engineer.
  • Must have a formal BS7671 qualification in the current edition of the wiring regulations.
  • Be technically competent and qualified to safely operate, and make safe to work on or test, the equipment, systems or installations for which appointment is sought;
  • Be familiar with the equipment, systems or installations for which appointment is sought;
  • Before being appointed, be able to demonstrate competency and suitability for the role through a formal interview carried out by the Authorising Engineer.
  • Have adequate knowledge of, and within the last three years have successfully completed, an emergency first-aid training course.

  • Proficiency in electrical inspection and maintenance procedures.

 

Due to the site being a high Security Military Naval base, additional security checks will need to be made – BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and have been a UK residence for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.

Rate is inside IR35.
