About the Role

Carmichael UK is recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading infrastructure project at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to one of the most significant redevelopment programmes in the South West, working within a highly regulated and technically complex environment.

You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team of consultants and project professionals, supporting the electrical design and delivery of key infrastructure within a live MOD facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary design team to support project delivery on a high-security site.

  • Review and comment on contractor and consultant electrical design documentation.

  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure design coordination.

  • Attend site and off-site meetings as required.

  • Support problem-solving and contribute to innovative mechanical and electrical design solutions.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current design standards and regulations.

  • Collaborate with external consultants, architects, civil and structural engineers to deliver coordinated designs.

  • Support the project team with documentation, technical queries, and reporting.

This is a hybrid role, typically working four days per week on-site and one day remotely.

About You

  • Qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (HNC, BSc, MSc, BEng, or MEng).

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, ideally within building services or large infrastructure.

  • Strong understanding of design documentation and familiarity with tools such as Amtech, AutoCAD, and Revit.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with RIBA and BSRIA Design Stage Deliverables.

  • Experience working on projects within highly regulated or defence environments.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the project, BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance is required.
Applicants must:

  • Hold a valid passport from a NATO or MISWG member country.

  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the past 5 year
