Contract Type: Permanent
Sector: Electrical within Aviation

About the Opportunity

Carmichael UK is seeking a Site Engineer with an Electrical Bias to join a major infrastructure programme at Heathrow. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong electrical knowledge who is comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment across civil, mechanical, and MEP packages.

You will be supporting electrical installations, control systems, ducting, cable routes, lighting, and associated infrastructure works on a high-profile aviation project. This position offers long-term stability, excellent progression, and the chance to work on technically challenging electrical systems within a large Tier 1 contractor team.

Role Overview

The Site Engineer (Electrical Bias) will support the technical and delivery requirements of electrical works on site. The role includes setting out for electrical infrastructure, supervising installations, managing quality and testing documentation, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring works comply with design, specifications, and safety standards.

You will work closely with electrical supervisors, Section Engineers, MEP teams, and civil engineering colleagues to ensure seamless delivery of electrical elements of the project.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Installation & Coordination

  • Support and supervise installation of electrical systems including LV/HV ducting, containment, cable routes, lighting, control panels, and associated infrastructure.

  • Ensure electrical works follow approved drawings, specifications, and installation standards.

  • Assist with reviewing electrical design information and raising RFIs or technical queries where required.

  • Coordinate with electrical subcontractors and ensure their work aligns with site requirements and programme.

Setting Out & Surveying

  • Carry out setting out for electrical infrastructure elements (e.g., duct runs, chambers, cable trenches, equipment bases).

  • Conduct as-built surveys and ensure all electrical installation data is captured and recorded.

  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment such as total stations and GPS.

Quality Assurance & Testing

  • Produce and maintain electrical-specific Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).

  • Manage QA documentation including cable test sheets, continuity/insulation test results, and commissioning records.

  • Carry out inspections to verify correct installation of cables, containment, earthing, and terminations.

  • Raise NCRs when installation deviates from standards and support corrective actions.

Safety & Compliance

  • Assist with electrical permitting systems, isolations, and safe-to-work procedures.

  • Contribute to electrical risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical regulations (e.g., BS 7671, ICA, DNO requirements).

Technical Support

  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and cable schedules.

  • Prepare technical sketches, redlines, and mark-ups for electrical works.

  • Support temporary works relating to electrical installations (cable supports, access, working platforms).

Site Management

  • Brief teams and subcontractors on electrical installation requirements.

  • Monitor progress and ensure electrical works are delivered to programme.

  • Liaise with civil teams regarding sequencing, access, and interfaces.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline.

  • Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Electrician/Technician stepping into an engineering role.

  • Strong understanding of electrical installation, containment, ducting, and cabling works.

  • Competent in reading electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.

  • Experience working with ITPs, test sheets, and QA documentation.

  • Familiarity with surveying and setting out (training can be provided if needed).

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a high-security, safety-critical environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in aviation, utilities, power distribution, rail, or water infrastructure.

  • Understanding of LV/HV systems, control systems, and electrical commissioning processes.

  • CSCS card (required), plus any relevant electrical or site certifications (ECS/SMSTS/First Aid).

  • Experience with temporary works related to electrical installations.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

  • Long-term project involvement with continuity of work.

  • Opportunities to progress into MEP or Section Engineer roles.

  • Exposure to advanced electrical systems and major UK infrastructure.
