An opportunity exists in Perthshire, Scotland, for an experienced Engineering Geologist with, amongst others, extensive hydro tunnel experience.
This role is critical for ensuring safety during rehabilitation/upgrading of a lined/unlined tunnel system.
Key responsibilities will include –
- Initially conduct visual assessments and monitoring of designated safety areas within the tunnels.
- Ensure that personnel are not at risk while working under identified areas of concern.
- Monitor tunnel conditions as permanent repairs (drilling, bolting, spraying) progress.
- Report findings directly to the on-site Management Team.
- Provide sensible recommendations for consideration by external designers if further remediation is required (or to adjust existing plans).
- Complete checklists and records of tunnel conditions as required.
The initial phase would require a shift pattern of 12 days on and 2 days off, 10-hour shifts with the first Monday and last Friday of each 12-day rotation allocated for travel. After initial weeks, role may transition to part-time as tunnel safety is confirmed
Requirements for this opportunity include –
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering OR Civil Engineering focussing on Geotechnical Engineering
- Extensive experience in tunnelling geology with sound engineering judgment
- Proven written and verbal communications skills
- Previous similar experience within the UK
- Valid confined space accreditation
- CSCS, SMSTS and first aid preferred
