Carmichael UK are delighted to present a career-defining opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join one of the UK’s most prestigious infrastructure programmes. This £1.2 billion project includes the delivery of 43 bridges (including several large viaducts), 17km of complex highways construction, significant utility diversions, and an industry-leading approach to carbon reduction.

 


The Role

As Engineering Manager, you will provide engineering and design management, leadership, and control of a multi-disciplinary project team. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring engineering excellence is delivered across all phases of this flagship programme.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading on engineering solution development across multiple disciplines to drive value engineering during the design phase.

  • Ensuring buildability and safety reviews are embedded throughout design development.

  • Overseeing integration of Temporary Works into scheme design.

  • Providing technical support to commercial teams during procurement.

  • Supporting quality compliance across specifications and standards.

  • Contributing to programme progress reporting, both short and long-term.

  • Continuously reviewing designs to identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and cost savings.

  • Managing design change processes, ensuring impacts are minimised and communicated effectively.


About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience in design management, solution development, and value engineering.

  • Strong track record in Design Co-ordination and Temporary Works design.

  • Experience leading major civil engineering operations, including phasing and contingency planning.

  • Demonstrable experience on large-scale infrastructure or civils projects.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Full driving licence and CSCS card.
