We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and coordinate all engineering activities on the HS2 project at Chipping Warden. The role will provide technical leadership across multiple work packages, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, compliant, buildable, and delivered in line with HS2 standards, programme, and commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the site-based engineering team, including Section Engineers and Site Engineers
- Coordinate engineering inputs across all disciplines including civils, structures, highways, drainage, and temporary works
- Act as the primary interface between construction, design, and HS2 technical assurance teams
- Ensure engineering designs are reviewed for buildability, safety, and programme efficiency
- Manage design changes, technical queries (RFIs), and value engineering proposals
- Ensure compliance with HS2 technical standards, specifications, and assurance processes
- Oversee setting out strategy, quality assurance, and as-built records
- Manage temporary works design, approval, and implementation
- Support planning and sequencing of works to meet programme milestones
- Provide technical input to construction methodologies, RAMS, and ITPs
- Identify and mitigate engineering risks and opportunities
- Support handover and completion documentation
Technical Scope
- Major civil engineering and structural works
- Portal buildings and associated infrastructure
- Earthworks, highways, and drainage interfaces
- Reinforced concrete and specialist concrete works
- Temporary works and complex construction sequencing
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering role on major infrastructure projects
- Experience working on HS2 or similar large-scale, regulated infrastructure schemes (preferred)
- Strong understanding of design management, technical assurance, and construction delivery
- CSCS card (Black or Gold)
- SMSTS (preferred)
- Temporary Works Coordinator (desirable)
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (ICE or similar)
