Carmichaels are seeking an Environmental Manager with Infrastructure experience to work on a major highways project in Birmingham.

 

Responsibilities include:

• Assist the Highways Environmental Sustainability lead and wider Infrastructure environmental team in any best practice initiatives and delivering ad-hoc improvement projects.

• Be responsible for the collection of data and report against the project’s monthly environmental KPIs

• Be directly responsible for a small team of environmental professionals within the project team.

• Be responsible for contributing to resource management, forecasting and succession planning, and providing required support projects and initiatives.

• Be responsible for ensuring environmental management compliance and best practice on projects and sites, and continual improvement.

• Provide advice, support and assistance to all project and work winning teams to enable them to manage their environmental responsibilities.

• Provide advice, support and assistance to operational and project personnel to enable them to deliver and manage their environmental and sustainable responsibilities and objectives.

• Assist in the development and delivery of suitable environmental and sustainability training for all project staff.

• Represent and promote the Environment Enabling Function in internal and external meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums – communicating best practice standards and initiatives

We’re looking for someone with:

• Good level of environmental management and general sustainability experience preferably gained in an infrastructure on construction environment

• Experience / competence managing operations within an accredited environmental management system, including people / processes / systems

• Experience / competence generating and delivering improvement initiatives within an operational function or project

• People and team leadership / development experience and capability

• Demonstrable passion and commitment for sustainability, carbon reduction and environmental outcomes

The ideal candidate would preferably have:

• Degree level in appropriate Environmental discipline or relevant construction/Highway Industry experience

• Have Practitioner/Full membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. IEMA or similar)

• Problem solving and innovative thinking
