We are looking for an experienced freelance Civils Estimator to join a Tier 2 civil engineering contractor on an immediate basis.
This is a hands-on role requiring someone capable of taking ownership of estimates from initial enquiry through to tender submission. You should have experience pricing civil engineering works up to approximately £3m using first-principles estimating, ideally gained with a regional, Tier 2/3 or smaller civils contractor.
Fully remote working may be available for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare estimates and tenders for civil engineering projects.
- Complete take-offs and first-principles pricing for labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
- Obtain and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Review drawings, specifications and tender information to identify risks and opportunities.
- Apply practical knowledge of construction methods, productivity and plant requirements when pricing works.
- Liaise with clients and attend site visits where required.
- Support tender negotiations and provide clear handovers on successful projects.
You will ideally have:
- A relevant civil engineering qualification, such as HNC, HND, degree or equivalent.
- Previous estimating experience within civil engineering or groundworks.
- Strong first-principles estimating and take-off capability.
- Practical knowledge of earthworks, drainage, concrete, roads, utilities and general civils.
- Strong commercial awareness with a good understanding of cost, risk and margin.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to manage tenders independently.
