Our client a leading Civil Engineering contractor are looking for an Estimator to join their Pre-construction team
Based in Swindon to play a key role contributing to an exciting portfolio of Rail, Highways, Tunnelling and Major project civil engineering tenders, typically in the £10m -50m range but potentially up to £1bn.
Key aspects of your role:
Actively contributing to the development of a successful tender strategy
Working closely with Bid Manager and bid team to ensure a competitive tender is produced
Contributing to Tender Launch meetings and providing an early pricing overview of major quantities and cost approximation
Developing Activity Schedules, BoQ structures and client pricing documents
Producing or appointing take-off or measurement checks
Working from first principles to develop fully costed schemes with minimal supervision.
Pricing alternative design solutions as required by the client and tender strategy
Working closely with procurement colleagues to create a comparison sheet for materials considering unit rate / wastage / waiting time / total cost
Liaising with Procurement to determine the appropriate selection of material suppliers and subcontract packages; interrogating and challenging priced packages from our supply chain.
Inputting and commenting on staff programmes, pricing using internal rates, including additional costs to employ.
Contributing to the compilation and pricing of the Risk & Opportunity Register
Ensuring all estimating papers are prepared and presented at Settlement Meeting and that all changes agreed to pricing and cash flow proposals are implemented.
Complying with all Corporate Governance requirements prior to submission of tenders, in conjunction with the bid manager.
What they are looking for:
A relevant Engineering qualification (e.g HND/degree)
Estimating experience on Heavy Civils, Rail, Road or Structures tenders
A good level of numeracy and IT skills – MS Office, Word, Excel etc
A strong team player who is self-motivated and able to communicate with people
Excellent organisation and time management skills
