Civil Estimator – Water Infrastructure

CarmichaelUK is proud to be working with CMDP, a joint venture between Costain and MWH Treatment, delivering a high-profile, multi-million-pound Design & Build Framework in the water sector. As part of this ambitious programme, we're seeking a talented and driven Civil Estimator to join the team in Falmer, supporting vital upgrades to drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities across the South East.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Preparing detailed and accurate budget estimates during early design stages

  • Developing target prices for civil packages on projects ranging from £250K to £20M

  • Reviewing specifications and drawings to ensure fully compliant, cost-effective solutions

  • Producing activity schedules and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) in accordance with client standards

  • Visiting project sites across the region to support pricing accuracy and practical planning

  • Collaborating with M&E estimators and project teams on integrated temporary and permanent works

  • Gathering and assessing subcontractor and supplier quotations for civil packages

  • Applying first-principles estimating to develop bottom-up costs

  • Preparing project-related indirect costs (e.g. site setup, welfare, staffing)

  • Supporting internal pricing reviews and participating in settlement meetings

  • Contributing to continuous improvement and innovation in estimating best practice


What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Proven experience estimating civil works such as earthworks, concrete foundations, pipework, ducting, and roads

  • Degree or qualification in Civil Engineering or related discipline

  • Strong knowledge of temporary works and construction methodologies

  • High proficiency with MS Excel and familiarity with estimating software/tools

  • Excellent communication, commercial awareness, and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple tenders with tight deadlines in a fast-paced framework environment

Desirable:

  • Experience in the water/utilities sector

  • Working knowledge of treatment processes and pumping systems

  • Familiarity with cost capture systems and programme analysis

  • CSCS card and valid UK driving licence
