Site Engineer – Geotechnical & Heavy Civil Engineering
Location: Plymouth, Devon
Rate/Salary: £300 - £400 per day Inside IR35 (plus Lodge if over 50 miles away)
Security Requirement: BPSS Clearance Eligibility Required
We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a major infrastructure project delivering complex geotechnical and heavy civil engineering works within a highly regulated environment.
This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging engineering packages including earthworks, deep excavations, ground improvement, piling, reinforced concrete structures, retaining systems and associated geotechnical works, supporting the safe and successful delivery of a nationally significant project.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with design and quality requirements.
Responsibilities will include:
- Setting out and surveying for geotechnical and civil engineering works.
- Establishing and maintaining dimensional control across earthworks, piling and structural packages.
- Producing and maintaining accurate site records, as-built information and survey data.
- Monitoring works against specifications, tolerances and quality standards.
- Supporting the management of technical queries and engineering challenges on site.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Recording and verifying workmanship, testing and materials compliance.
- Ensuring survey equipment is calibrated and maintained.
- Supporting the preparation and review of RAMS and engineering documentation.
- Maintaining drawing registers, site diaries and quality records.
- Working closely with subcontractors, supervisors and project delivery teams to ensure programme and quality requirements are achieved.
About You
We are keen to hear from Site Engineers who have experience working on major civil engineering or geotechnical projects and can demonstrate:
- Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience as a Site Engineer on infrastructure, ground engineering or heavy civil engineering projects.
- Strong setting out and surveying skills using Leica GPS, Total Stations and digital levels.
- Experience working with quality management systems and technical documentation.
- Understanding of geotechnical construction methodologies.
- Ability to review drawings and specifications and communicate technical information effectively.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience preparing or supporting RAMS, quality records and engineering documentation.
Highly Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Geotechnical works
- Piling (CFA, rotary bored, sheet piling, secant piling or diaphragm walling)
- Ground improvement works
- Deep excavations and temporary works
- Earthworks and ground stabilisation
- Retaining structures
- Reinforced concrete construction
- Marine civils or heavy infrastructure
- Nuclear, defence or other highly regulated environments
- Development of ITPs and quality assurance processes
Certifications (Desirable)
- SSSTS
- First Aid at Work
- Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) or Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
- Working towards ICE or another relevant professional accreditation
