We are looking for an articulate and enthusiastic Civil Engineer to join our busy design team based in Bridgend, South Wales. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting our highways design team in the delivery of a challenging range of projects for a variety of public and private sector clients. The breadth of projects the teamwork on requires a candidate with a sound grasp of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and associated best practice design guidance along with a working knowledge of appropriate software tools including AutoCAD.

 

Key Accountabilities

·        Undertake designs, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and supporting, technical reports, and other technical output to achieve project outcomes.

·        Undertake site visits, surveys, and investigations.

·        A working knowledge of software design tools including Key Lines, Key Signs, Civils 3D, AutoCAD, Micro Drainage as appropriate.

·        Deliver projects to agreed time and cost expectations.

·        Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with internal quality standards and processes.

·        Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.

·        Technical training/mentoring of Technicians.

·        Working collaboratively with customers to understand and develop project objectives.

·        Helping with developing and maintaining excellent customer relations.

·        Maintain and increase knowledge of Standards & Codes of Practice.

·        Participate in CPD activities to ensure skills remain relevant.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

·        A BSc, BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering / Highway / Transportation or similar discipline, ideally accredited for CEng with the Engineering Council.

·        Preferably, working towards I Eng or C Eng.

 

Knowledge and Experience

·        Good relevant experience in design and construction activities within the highway sector including drainage, pavement, and alignment design.

·        Good knowledge of Highways England standards such as the DMRB and MCHW.

·        Evidence of preparing Departure from Standards approvals.

·        Knowledge of programming tools such as Microsoft Project.

·        Good knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in design and construction.

·        Computer literate particularly with packages such as Microsoft Excel and Word.

·        Previous experience of utilising design software such as Bentley MX, Key Lines, Key Signs and Micro drainage (WinDes) (desirable)

·        Working knowledge of AutoCad and Civils 3D desirable.

·        Understanding of the principles of BIM
