The works are essential in order to replace existing electricity circuits which are coming towards the end of their useful life. The majority of these currently run beneath the road network.
Work to build the tunnels will start in spring 2020 and will take approximately six years to complete.
The new cable tunnels are part of National Grid’s £750 million investment to ensure a continued safe and secure supply of electricity to the Capital.
