CarmichaelUK are looking for an MEP Technical Lead / Design Manager to join a tier 1 contractor who is delivering the Bank Station upgrade.
The project comprises of a new entrance, three ticket halls, six lifts, 10 platforms, two 94m travelators, 570m tunnel and platform for Northern Line
 
The MEP Technical Lead / Design Manager will act as Package Manager and Technical lead for all Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, Fire and Comms (MEPFC) design activities on BSCU on behalf of the contractor reporting the Design & Engineering Manager, with the following main primary functions:
Management and coordination of all MEPFC design related activities
To ensure that the MEPFC design represents best value and minimum risk for the Bank Station Upgrade Project
Design calculations and checks of MEPFC elements which are to be under the design liability where the designs are within the competency of the Technical Lead.
To provide Assurance to London Underground that the MEPFC design works are fit for purpose and compliant with the project’s technical requirements
 
ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The holder of the MEP Technical Lead / Design Manager position will be required to:
As Package Manager for the Design Contract
Be the principal point of contact for all MEPFC activities
Manage the MEPFC designers, deliverables, design programme, and quality of output of the MEPFC design supply chain in meeting the project timescales and deliverables
Co-ordinate between different design and construction teams within BSCU project
Co-ordinate with LU Third Parties and PFIs through the BSCU Third Parties and PFIs engineer
Identify value engineering opportunities and manage their delivery.
 
As Technical Lead for the Design Contract:
Manage and coordinate the design interface and integration between MEPFC and other Design Organisations (premises, civils, L&E, track and tunnelling), PFIs and Third Parties.
Manage the confirmation of requirements, assumptions, dependencies and caveats between the Design Organisation(s) and any Third Parties.
Monitor and confirm design information issued to Design Organisations is acceptable to the contractor. Review and accept on behalf of the design output (graphical and non-graphical) from Third Parties
Manage and confirm the Completion status of the Design and associated deliverables.
MEPFC design calculations and checking for permanent and temporary works to be used on the Project where the contractor accepts to bear the design liability.
Assisting the MEPFC designers and subcontractors as may be required so that they are able to check, manage and provide assurance for their design submissions.
Be the Accountable Person to ensure that the installation has been constructed in line with the principles of the approved design.
 
SPECIFIC SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The post holder will be the duty holder under the Electricity at Work act for;
Reviewing safe system of work planned by the Construction Team
Ensuring commissioning of systems is done in a controlled and safe manner
Ensuring that all safe systems of work are documented
Ensuring compliance with Client safe systems of work standards and processes
Discharging due diligence in the position for compliance with the mandatory sections of legislative requirements.
 
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:
10+ years of experience in MEP Design
5+ years of experience in MEP Design Coordination, i.e. working on multi-disciplinary projects
Required - Previous experience on rail projects across London Underground, Network Rail, Crossrail (preferably London Underground)
Educated to degree level or equivalent in Engineering or Construction Management preferred
Excellent understanding of all MEPFC systems, codes, BS and LU standards relevant to the works
Experienced dealing with MEP designers, contractors and subcontractors
