Operations Software and Data Engineer - Geospatial/Land Surveying Sector
We are currently recruiting an Operations Software and Data Engineer to join a Leading Survey Consultancy in the UK. The role will involve collaborating with the various managers, survey departments, and support functions to design, develop and implement significant operational improvements across the business. Operational improvements that will improve client’s quality of service, increase the efficiency of delivery, improve staff motivation through innovation, learning and development, and directly lead to a more profitable business.
The Operations Software and Data Engineer will be an integral role within the business, with an exciting and varied remit, bringing an expertise in software programming and development, data management and analysis, and having the ability to work within various teams alongside Geospatial Industry experts to develop and implement the operational improvements.
Due to the varied nature of the role, ongoing learning and development (CPD) will be provided to ensure the chosen applicant is given the best platform for success.
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking individual to join an exciting team. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Group Operations Manager and can be based out of any of the UK (London, Manchester, Birmingham) or Irish offices.
What will I be doing in my new role?
- Design, develop and implement geospatial software improvements through software programming, leveraging existing SDK’s and API’s.
- Working with the Operations Function, play an integral role in the effective implementation of a group wide Business Information platform.
- Ongoing business information data management and analysis through the Business Information platform.
- Developing operational improvements through the Microsoft O365 suite of tools, such as automation of tasks with Power Query and Power Automate.
- Supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of the client 3D delivery portal.
- Project managing small to medium internal improvement projects from the initial project charter to final delivery and review.
- Building and delivering training content in the Learning Management System.
- Support the Group Operations Manager in developing initiatives that continue to build a culture of continuous improvement and innovative thinking.
- Developing systems to effectively track operational efficiency, quality, and improvement.
- Meeting with suppliers, attending conferences, and pro-active reading to stay abreast of technical developments (geospatial and non-geospatial).
What qualifications/ previous experience do I need?
Experience in the following is essential:
- An ability to develop software using common programming languages (ie Python, C++, C#, SQL, Javascript)
Experience in the following is advantageous for being selected for the role. Where not held, the candidate should be able to demonstrate similar experience which highlights a quick ability to learn:
- Geospatial/land surveying knowledge
- General survey software experience (ie Autocad, Revit, TBC, Starnet, Cyclone)
- General survey software programming (ie LISP’s, Macro’s)
- Understanding of the different survey disciplines
- Business data analysis and visualisation software (ie Power BI, Tableau)
- Microsoft O365 tool programming/automation + linkage (ie Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Query)
- Web development programming
- Project management experience (small to medium internal or external projects)
- Stakeholder management experience
- Process/continuous improvement experience (ie Lean 6 sigma, Kaizen)
- A degree in a related subject preferred.
