£450 to £500/day Ltd

An opportunity exists for a Planner to support the successful delivery of a major framework within the water sector. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in significant infrastructure investment programmes, contributing to the delivery of essential water and wastewater projects across the framework.

The Planner will take responsibility for developing, managing, and maintaining multiple project programmes across a diverse portfolio of works, ensuring that planning activities enable safe, efficient, and timely delivery.

You will play a key role in coordinating schedules, tracking performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing clear programme visibility to both project teams and senior stakeholders. This role requires strong planning and programme management capability, excellent stakeholder engagement, and experience working across multiple projects simultaneously.

This is a hybrid position, combining office and site presence with the flexibility to work from home for up to 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed construction programmes across multiple live projects within the framework.
  • Manage several concurrent project schedules, ensuring alignment with overall framework objectives and contractual milestones.
  • Produce fully integrated programmes covering all phases including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Establish baseline programmes and track progress against agreed timelines.
  • Regularly review and update programmes to reflect progress, changes, and emerging requirements.
  • Carry out critical path analysis to identify key risks, constraints, and opportunities within the programme.
  • Prepare and present regular planning updates and progress reports to project teams and senior management.
  • Assess programme impacts arising from variations, delays, or unforeseen issues.
  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, designers, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure programme alignment.
  • Attend and contribute to planning and progress meetings, providing clear insight to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure programmes are practical, achievable, and aligned with delivery strategies.
  • Communicate any programme changes and associated impacts effectively to all relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Construction Planner within infrastructure projects, ideally in the water sector.
  • Strong background delivering programmes for water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines, pumping stations, or similar assets.
  • Experience working with a Tier 1 UK infrastructure contractor is preferred.
  • Relevant qualification in civil engineering, construction management, project management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programmes within a framework or portfolio environment.
  • Strong knowledge of planning methodologies and programme controls, with hands-on experience using Primavera P6.
  • Experience producing and managing detailed construction schedules across the full project lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of all project phases, from design through to commissioning and handover.
  • Advanced skills in reporting and data analysis, particularly using Microsoft Excel.
  • Good understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM).
  • Membership of a recognised professional body such as APM or CIOB is desirable.
  • A proactive approach to supporting the successful and timely delivery of projects across the United Utilities framework.
