Carmichaels are looking for a Principal Designer to join our clients Transportation team to support National Highways major projects. You will provide support and guidance to scheme delivery teams on framework contracts and to work on local highways projects.  Could this be you?

Location: Nationwide – remote working with travel within UK to meet clients and design teams and visit sites when required

Contract: Permanent – flexible and part-time hours available if desired, just let us know

Salary: £45k – £60k FTE DOE + car allowance £6,100 + benefits

 

What will you be responsible for?

As a Principal Designer, you'll provide support to the lead Principal Designer and design team(s) on implementation of CDM regulations, prepare and implement project level CDM compliance strategies and assist with the client in

Your day to day will include:

  • responsibility as the point of contact named on the F10 for Principal Designer function. You will assist in carrying out project safety reviews, ensuring the application of the principles of prevention
  • prepare Project documentation to support management of CDM and Health and safety in design development. On National Highways major projects this will include appropriate PCF documentation
  • preparation of fee estimates and programmes for the activities within your responsibility. Making a positive contribution towards bids and project proposals making suggestions for new areas of work
  • mentoring and coaching members of staff. Actively contributing to the technical excellence in the team and will supervise, assist and/or mentor team members as required with regards to both technical and professional development and is active in maintaining and developing own technical expertise (CPD)

 

What are we looking for?

This role of Principal Designer is great for you if you are:

  • chartered engineer i.e. ICE, CIHT
  • educated to degree level in Civil Engineering or related discipline and have relevant demonstratable industry experience
  • have a recognised professional qualification in Health and Safety (e.g. NEBOSH)
  • hold a full UK driving licence
