Project Controls Reporting Analyst


Carmichaels are seeking a Project Controls Reporting Analyst for the HS2 project in Birmingham.

Job Summary
The Project Controls Reporting Analyst implements defined control structures and processes for a key element of the HS2 Project integrating scheduling, risk, change management, document control and costing activities to provide clear and timely visibility of project performance to enable rapid and effective decisions to be taken and control actions to be implemented on a fully informed basis.
In parallel to collate, validate and submit monthly and ad hoc reports to all levels of the project including Senior Management, Project Board and the DfT.
Key Responsibilities
On controls
▪Oversee the preparation of the level 1 Programmes for the relevant section of the project.
▪Maintain an accurate assessment of project section status at all times and provide reports to the Lead Project Controls Manager to consolidate reports to Project Director and the Client
▪Implement defined processes and systems to control the project in line with SWI500 and the PCEP
▪Define and agree with SPMs key control quantities, baselines and ROCs for control during delivery
▪Apply Earned Vale techniques to report progress and performance against the baselines through Key Performance Indicator’s (KPI’s).
▪Prepare formal and ad hoc reports on a monthly basis of:
−Progress against schedule and trend
−Actual cost vs. budget and trend
−Contingency spend vs. risk
▪Ensure that the schedule for the section fully recognises the requirements, consents and approvals
▪Ensure the effective management of the time and financial contingency built into the schedule for the section and ensure that contingency allowances reflect the current project position.
▪Apply the change management process and ensure it’s application through all tiers of the project.
On reporting
▪Agree content and format of standard monthly progress, board and other reports with Senior Management and manage the timetable for monthly report production
▪Meet with contributors to overall report to review, validate and collate data from various sources into the consolidated report
▪With the function/package leads analyse the report data to identify and highlight trends and issues regarding project KPI’s for the attention of reviewers
▪Draft high level summary for agreement with Head of Project Controls and Project Director.
▪Obtain feedback from users and continuously improve the quality of reporting.

Technical Competencies required

▪Excellent oral and written communication skills
▪Very strong understanding of techniques for project planning, risk management, cost control and other facets of project control
▪Ability to apply IT systems relevant to Controls.
▪Strong knowledge of integrated project reporting
▪Strong numerical and data analysis skills.
▪Ability to use Primavera P6 and other software

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience required
▪Relevant experience of project controls and reporting
▪Past experience of large (£100m plus) projects
▪MAPM of formal PM/ Project controls qualification.
▪Experience in the railway environment.
