Purpose

The purpose of the Transport Rebuild East Coast Alliance (TREC) is to restore the state highway and railway networks in the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne Regions impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. Furthermore, the alliance exists to build resilience into the network to minimise the impacts of future events. The alliance’s purpose is to ensure a regional centric approach that respects and engages with iwi, council, regional suppliers to support a local recovery. 

The purpose for this position is to:

  • To seamlessly manage engineering construction processes to meet contractor and client expectations, whilst meeting construction, safety and financial standards
  • To plan, organise and control the technical and engineering aspects of designated project works

 

Responsibilities

  • Work constructively as a member of the Alliance taking an active role to provide detailed project planning and reporting for at least 3 to 12 month look-ahead planning and programming and detailed monthly planning
  • Supervise, oversee, and coordinate project team ensuring clear communication of plans and issues to management
  • Plans for potential risks during critical phases of contracts assessing the level of risk and acting appropriately
  • Supervision of subcontractor activities and contribution to subcontract work processes (instructions, variations, claims etc)
  • between various trade packages
  • Strong knowledge of costs and awareness of methods and alternative options
  • Commitment and compliance to all elements of the Alliance Health and Safety policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Academic or professional qualification in engineering or another relevant field
  • Professional practicing NZ registered engineer, or eligibility to be registered in New Zealand
  • At least 10 years’ experience in engineering
  • Strong technical understanding of construction methods and techniques
  • Experience in a large construction/multi project environment
  • Experience in complex and/or large-scale projects At least 10 years’ experience carrying out structural and fit out construction work on large scale commercial projects
  • Solid computer skills
  • Ability to understand drawings and construction details and impart those to others
  • Highly organised with an innate ability to problem solve and influence others
  • Ability to influence and facilitate difficult discussions, handle conflict and work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable the building of effective relationships with key personnel, including supporting teams at the senior management level
  • Ability to champion and promote Alliance principles and influence others
  • Promotion of high levels of collaboration, connectivity, and standardised work practices
