Our client, a well known contractor in New Zealand, are currently seeking a Project Manager to lead highways and land development projects in the North Island.

Description:

Manage Day to Day Project Delivery, deliver to or beat the plan, meet all contract specifications and use all resources efficiently.

  • Manage Clients and Head Contractors needs to deliver all work requirements in an amicable manner.
  • Engage Clients and Head contractors in budgets to completion and provide certainty on delivery through good financial management.
  • Secure and manage Sub-Contractors to deliver works programs on time and too budget.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Clients/ Head Contractors/ Sub- Contractors and staff.
  • Challenge contract methodologies, operations and productivities in a constructive manner to increase opportunities.
  • Work with supervisors, foreman and other staff to organise and manage day to day project execution, including the efficient use of labour and resources and performance of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety and environmental and regulatory requirements are achieved
  • Ensure all technical elements of the activities are fit for purpose
  • All project administration is completed, RFI’s and variations are managed, and invoices issued on time
  • Understand how profit is to be made on the project and manage the project to make or exceed budgeted margin
  • Seek guidance from Senior Management team to work towards a financial goal that is in line with the businesses commercial interests at all times.

 

Win business, assist others on Bid work, and deliver bids to a high standard that leverages our experience not just price.

  • Seek and capture work opportunities within current client list and new clients when required, current projects and also within the private market
  • Build successful long-term relationships with the client and propose and provide innovative solutions
  • Ensure competitive and accurate pricing is undertaking through review of methodologies and price build ups as requested from Managers and Bid team
  • Understand complex tender requirements
  • Understand contract obligations and deliver on all aspects
  • Provide accurate Monthly reporting on project’s with regards to all aspects including but not limited to Financials, H&S, Environmental and all CQP deliverables as well as Cost to complete reports. These reports must be reflecting budget vs actual expenditure, programed completion vs. actual and identifying risk areas within the budgeted deliverables with regards to the spend forecast –i.e. Managing front and back loading of projects to reflect actual revenue.
  • Proactively undertaking risk management of projects which includes tender reviews of rates and build ups with a string focus on the delivery team managing the works to mitigate extra work that is not recoverable and rework and any other inappropriate unrecoverable expenses.
  • Manage all aspects of Quality Assurance for your respective projects and ensure delivery of the QA is accurate and legible and traceable by clients to manage contract risks.

Health & Safety –All Staff

  • Ensure you only carry out tasks for which they have been trained for or they are under direct supervision.
  • That you report any hazardous situation immediately to their supervisor.
  • That you correct any hazard they notice or if this is not possible report the hazard to their supervisor.
  • That you never handle chemicals unless they have read the material safety data sheet, understand the hazards, emergency procedures, safety equipment required, and have been trained for the materials safe handling.
  • That you report all Events (accidents, incidents near miss or concerns) no matter how minor to their supervisor.
  • That you always wear the correct safety equipment.
  • You stop any process or activity they consider to be likely to cause harm.
  • You refuse to carry out any task or activity they think may cause harm or they are not trained to do

 

Requirements

  • Construction Project Management or similar qualification, or at least 10 years relevant work experience essential
  • Full clean Drivers License
  • A strong focus on clients and relationships
  • A strong focus on cost control and quality outcomes
  • A strong focus on health and safety not just your own but colleagues and the public
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and the ability to think for yourself
