An immediate start, three-month contract, outside of IR35 opportunity exists for a competent Quality Inspector/Clerk of Works with specifically highways and highways structures experience, to start circa the 17th.
Duties will include
  • Support the Quality Manager to promote the systems of Quality Control on the project, encouraging a positive quality culture and Right First Time.
  • Endeavour to ensure that relevant and robust inspection and test plans (ITPs) are produced in a timely manner by assisting construction team with their production, and to review and approve these ensuring adequate controls are in place, paying particular attention to compliance criteria.
  • Carry out inspections at a frequency identified in the ITPs ensuring such proportion of the works provides sufficient assurance of compliance and design intent
  • Keep records of inspections (Observation Log)
  • Assist the Quality Risk Review (QRR) process
  • Communicate Toolbox Talks and briefings to the team
  • Assist the construction team by conducting interim inspections at key stages of construction activities ahead of the inspection request to ensure any issues are identified and resolved at an early stage
  • Assist in carrying out quality audits on internal project processes, identifying issues as part of an informative report
  • Encourage the early identification of a non-conforming system or product (potential defect) in a proactive, transparent and no blame environment. To cause them to be rectified before they have a negative impact on the Contract, and to comment on the effectiveness of the preventative actions.
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality Engineer to promote the NCR register within the team and be the driving force to ensure actions are closed out
  • Undertake reviews / inspections prior to and during any relevant off-site manufacture
  • Responsible for ensuring quality records such as completed inspection and test plan records are captured in a timely manner and archived electronically by conducting regular reviews.
  • Endeavour to ensure that red line drawings, are captured contemporaneously by the construction teams, to enable as-built drawings.
  • The Quality Inspector will assist the construction team with the preparation and review of snagging lists of the various activities, for completion of the construction works packages.
  • Liaise with the NEC Supervisor to ensure NEC contract requirements are met
 
Requirements for this role include –
  • Civil or Structural Engineering Qualification, Diploma, NVQ Level 3 or higher (essential)
  • Knowledge and understanding of QA / QC principles and their application to a project, suppliers and sub-contractors – ITPs, NCRs, MARs,RFIs
  • Experience / knowledge on NEC4 contract (ideal)
  • Experience in Highways works (essential)
  • Experience in structures (preferable)
  • Understanding of principles of Civil Engineering relating to the project scope of works
  • Confidently read drawings, specifications and contract information
  • Previous experience in a similar role would be desirable 
  • Senior Engineers or Site Agents with Highways construction experience are encouraged to apply for this role
  • Membership of the ICE or working towards it (or other recognised professional body)
  • CSCS, SMSTS 
  • Experience / knowledge of temporary works management (ideal)
  • CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course (ideal)
  • Understanding and application of BS 5975:2019 (ideal)
  • Thorough understanding and application of the CDM Regulations (ideal)
