CarmcichaelUK are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join us on a Tier 1 delivery Project in Luton on various highways projects.   

You will be working with the Projects Commercial team. Ideally the candidate would have experience working on highways for a main contractors but other civils industries would be considered.

  1. Subcontract Management – including drafting & agreeing subcontracts as well as assessing and certifying AfPs.
  2. Cost Management
  3. Site Measurement experience, Estimating, Quantity Take-offs etc.
  4. Familiar with Method of Measurement, SORs.
  5. Working with NEC contracts


Other attributes for the role 

  • Preparing bills of quantities from design drawings using a bespoke schedule of rates and pricing new rates from first principals where required
  • Compiling and agreeing Call Off Contracts with the client (Transport for London) using standard contract templates and obtaining internal approvals from signatories
  • Compiling and agreeing Subcontracts with TKJV supply chain using standard subcontract templates
  • Using TfL contract software (A-Site) to manage all contract administration, issuing EWN’s, NCE’s and QUO’s within contractual timescales
  • Managing subcontract relationships and all contract administration including mitigating raised EWN’s, assessing NCE’s and QUO’s within contractual timescales
  • Application and assessment of interim applications and certifications monthly
  • Preparation of Cost Value Reconciliations including presentation of results monthly
  • Preparation of monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Submission and negotiation of final accounts with both client and supply chain
  • Working with delivery team to find efficiencies, increase margin and to mitigate potential risks
  • Internal administration, raising supply chain frameworks and orders for approval

Essential Requirements

  • Successful candidate will be an experienced and responsible Quantity Surveyor with a proactive drive to succeed
  • Extensive commercial experience in the Highways or similar Infrastructure related sector
  • Understanding of Highways Method of Measurement and construction methodology
  • Experience preparing take offs and bills of quantities directly from highways designs
  • Demonstrable experience in the administration and management of subcontractors
  • Excellent knowledge of the NEC form of Contract and its various options
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of IT systems for estimating, invoicing and subcontractor management
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of commercial processes, including interim applications, payment certifications, CVR’s and forecasting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High level of commercial awareness
