Reinforcement Precast Site Engineer

Carmichael's have the pleasure to recruit for a Senior reinforcement precast site engineer. You will be responsible for all on site engineering activities associated with an HS2 Precast Factory. Including the on-site management of all aspects of the production of reinforcement precast segments of a key section in HS2

You must ensure that all production tasks are completed on time and within budget, whilst never compromising on the quality of the rebar cage of the precast segments.

This will include making sure that all different types of rebar cages segments are produced as per the required production programme and design drawings.

The Senior reinforcement precast site engineer will be a strong leader, pro-active and perform well under pressure.

The production of the rebar cages for this section will include 1 000 segments – 8 600 tons to be produced over a period of 2 years.

Responsibilities 

Senior Reinforcement Site Engineer will be responsible for: 

 

  • Being the principal point of contact responsible for all engineering issues during the initial site setup, construction and production phases,
  • Leading a team of site supervisors & general foremen including planning their ongoing activities as well as coordinating any other on-site 
  • Ensuring that the required reinforced cages et PT components are procured / fabricated / installed in a timely manner and delivered to the  precast shed, ready for installation and production in line with the requirements of the production program,
  • Ensuring the  Precast Factory Manager and Superintendent are updated on all issues as soon as possible, to mitigate the risk of production downtime,
  • Ensuring all site-based activities are communicated & coordinated the Precast Factory Manager and Superintendent to avoid any conflict of planned activities,
  • Recording any events which affect the day’s activities in a comprehensive site diary (e.g. weather, resource availability, instructions received, interfaces with other tasks etc.…) and providing the adequate feedback to enable the updating of progress reports, daily diaries changes and issues for areas of responsibility.
  • Assisting the Project Control team to develop and detail to the Precast Factory production programme and then develop the reporting tools of the works and production progress to the senior management,
  • Ensuring that method, sequence and resource required to deliver the activities are thoroughly planned, programmed and delivered,
  • Producing and maintaining 3 weeks look ahead programmes,
  • Monitoring progress against the weekly programmes on a daily basis,
  • Working with the cost control team to report the progress and to inform on cost changes,
  • Working with the procurement team to ensure the adequate supply of the required production fittings and materials in line with the production programme,
  • Coordinating with the maintenance teams to make sure all visual checks are carried out adequately, to ensure the smooth operation of all factory equipment,
  • Coordinating with the maintenance teams to ensure all daily, weekly and monthly checks are carried out on all equipment, as per the carousel supplier’s recommendations,
  • Coordinating all planned preventative maintenance tasks with the maintenance teams to avoid any unnecessary downtime to the production,
  • Coordinating the various subcontractors on site, including the various supply companies visiting the site to install the factory buildings, rebar jigs, transport chair, lifting beams, SPEMT, tower crane & gantry cranes,
  • Reviewing interfaces with adjacent activities and ensuring that they are properly coordinated and communicated,
  • Attending regular site progress meetings with all involved parties to monitor progress, quality and safety,
  • Attending the daily activity briefing to ensure that all team members understand the planned activities, and are aware of any changing risks associated with the planned works,
  • Promoting the setting up and the methodologies used in the operation of the rebar assembly line,
  • Ensuring that the suppliers and Align teams maintain the on-going compliance of all products and related approvals,
  • Ensuring that the Align teams and sub-contractors meet their requirements with respect to programme, quality, safety, and sustainability issues,
  • Ensuring that all sub-contractors are working to the latest design information and providing technical advice and support where required,
  • Ensuring quality construction standards and suitable construction techniques are adopted and maintained in order to provide a defect free end product,
  • Ensuring continual improvement of all the production steps of the rebar cage of the  Precast Factory.
  • Liaise with the client representative and designers over design issues/changes, in coordination with the Precast Factory Manager and Superintendent,
  • Assist the site management team to manage sections of the work/specific sub-contract packages,
  • Take responsibility for checking and keeping records of delivered material, to ensure all materials used on site are in line with the specification. To include adequate checks on subcontractor materials,
  • Carry out checks on the sub-contractor’s setting out,
  • Monitoring the implementation of the method statements,
  • Producing, reviewing and approving (as and when authorised) ITP’s, risk assessments, method statements,
  • Monitoring the implementation of the ITPs,
  • Ensuring the safe execution of the works at all times,
  • Fulfilling Health & Safety responsibilities by adhering to the Align’s Health & Safety Policy and Management Plans,
  • Complying with all Company’s Policies and Procedures,
  • Undertaking other such reasonable duties appropriate to the role,

 

Skills & Experience 

  • Experience in construction industry (preferably on large scale pre cast projects).
  • Proven experience in highly technical construction projects, from initial site setup through to commissioning,
  • Proven experience in leading and supervising large site based teams,
  • Ability to interpret and build according to drawings, specifications and other documents,
  • A good practical understanding of Health & Safety requirements,
  • Strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills,
  • Ability to prioritise, plan, schedule and evaluate works,
  • Ability to prepare long term programmes with assistance of project planner,
  • Computer skills across the whole Microsoft Office suite,

Qualifications

  • Essential - Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering,
  • Essential - SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme),
  • Essential - CSCS Card holder,
  • Essential - Full UK driving Licence,
  • Desirable - Membership of Construction or Manufacturing industry professional body,
  • Desirable - Lifting Supervisor,
  • Desirable - Temporary Works Coordinator,
  • Desirable - First Aider,
  • Desirable - Fire Marshall.
