Overview

We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer with a strong background in structural works to join our delivery team on HS2 near Greatworth. You will play a key role in managing the engineering and technical aspects of bridges, retaining walls, culverts and other structural assets within a major section of this nationally significant project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day engineering coordination for structural construction activities including bridge construction, reinforced concrete works, formwork, falsework, steelwork installations and associated civils.

  • Provide accurate setting out, quality control, and verification of works against design specifications and tolerances.

  • Manage junior engineers and oversee QA requirements — ITPs, as-built records, surveys, test results and assurance documentation.

  • Work closely with Project Engineers and Supervisors to plan works, develop short-term programmes, and manage resources.

  • Liaise with the design team, temporary works coordinators, and subcontractors to address technical queries and ensure buildability.

  • Maintain strict safety, environmental, and quality standards in line with HS2 requirements and CDM regulations.

  • Coordinate inspections and approvals with client representatives and local stakeholders.

  • Assist in resolving construction challenges, sequencing constraints, clashes and design changes through proactive risk management.

  • Support innovation and continual improvement in construction processes and engineering delivery.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in structures delivery on major civil engineering schemes (bridges, RC works, viaducts preferred).

  • Previous experience on HS2 or similar high-profile infrastructure desirable.

  • Proficient in surveying and engineering control equipment (Total Station, GPS etc.).

  • Confident managing documentation and digital records using modern systems (including BIM workflows).

  • Capable of leading small engineering teams and fostering a collaborative, safety-first culture.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or similar discipline.

  • CSCS card essential; SSSTS/SMSTS and Temporary Works Supervisor/Coordinator beneficial.

  • Full UK driving licence.
