Carmichael UK are seeking a section engineer to join a tier 1 contractor on the HS2 line in Rickmansworth within the Earthworks team
About the role
Teamwork and management
- Lead the engineering/delivery team in self-delivery of earthworks in line with the project specifications and industry standards.
- Produce short term programmes from section programme, track progress against targets and resolve problems to mitigate delays.
- Carry out and delegate tasks effectively to achieve the short term and long-term targets.
- Liaise with various support teams e.g. consents, lifting, temporary works, buried services, methods, H&S and Environment to ensure relevant documentation and permits are in place for works.
- Liaise with procurement team to confirm material requirements, order materials and manage timely deliveries.
- Liaise with works managers to arrange correct resources e.g. plant and labour in a timely manner.
- Liaise with testing labs to plan and carry out required testing, review results and action accordingly.
- Produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements and brief to the team to ensure works are carried out safely.
- Attend meetings with various stakeholders including the client to ensure works are in line with project commitments.
Technical and site work
- Carry out earthworks modelling tasks using AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar modelling software.
- Extract information from models and loading into earthworks machinery.
- Carry out site setting out/surveys as required.
- Ensure all setting-out and quality control procedures are performed in a timely and efficient manner, so as not to impede the construction programme.
- Managing surveying data such as as-builts, etc in line with project requirements.
- Liaise with foreman/works manager to ensure any clashes on site are managed to ensure continuity of work.
- Review and report outputs to wider project. Regularly review procedures to ensure efficiency is maintained or bettered.
- Produce ITPs and liaise with quality/site engineer(s) to ensure ITP criteria are fully adhered to and assist in completion of quality documentation through site records.
- Maintain thorough site diary.
- Working with the appointed quantity surveyors to accurately measure and value the works carried out.
What we are looking for…
Ideally, you’ll hold an HNC or a Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Demonstrable experience in management of Earthworks in a senior engineer capacity and leading a team of engineers is essential. Additionally, experience in managing drainage works is desirable.
Due to the self-delivery nature of the job, as well as delegating effectively, you will be required to carry out various engineering tasks yourself. You’ll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be proactive, an innovator and a collaborative team worker.
