CarmichaelUK is seeking a Section Engineer with Earthworks experience to join a Tier 1 contractor on a major highways project in South West London. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership role in delivering critical infrastructure, ensuring quality, safety, and programme compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineering & Site Control – Oversee site engineering, setting out, and ensuring work is delivered Right First Time
- Work Planning & Methodology – Lead the production of Task Briefing Sheets, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments
- Quality Assurance & Compliance – Ensure work meets the required standards, including managing Permit to Dig processes and conducting site inspections
- Subcontractor & Resource Management – Monitor subcontractor performance, provide direct instruction, and ensure all contractual obligations are met
- Problem-Solving & Issue Resolution – Identify and resolve technical challenges on-site, escalating as needed
- Reporting & Documentation – Maintain detailed site records, as-built documentation, daily diaries, and progress reports
About You:
- Experience as a Section Engineer on major highways or civil engineering projects
- Strong setting out, site management, and technical leadership skills
- Understanding of health, safety, and quality control procedures
- Excellent subcontractor management and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in relevant surveying and CAD software
