We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to lead the engineering delivery of drainage works on the HS2 project in Aylesbury. This permanent role will suit a technically strong engineer with proven drainage and civil infrastructure experience, capable of managing defined sections of work while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and programme control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take engineering ownership of drainage works including surface water, foul drainage, attenuation systems, culverts, headwalls, and outfalls.
  • Lead setting-out activities and ensure accuracy and compliance with design specifications and HS2 standards.
  • Manage and mentor Site Engineers within the drainage section, ensuring consistent engineering control and QA compliance.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes including ITPs, inspections, testing, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams to ensure efficient delivery of works.
  • Support short-term planning, sequencing, and resource allocation for drainage activities.
  • Liaise with design teams, temporary works coordinators, and environmental teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure full compliance with HS2 health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and opportunities, and contribute to reporting and forecasting.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Section Engineer or Senior Site Engineer on drainage-led civils projects.
  • Strong knowledge of drainage systems and their interface with earthworks, highways, and structures.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure projects; HS2 experience highly desirable.
  • Proficient in surveying and setting-out equipment (GPS, Total Station, laser levels).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • CSCS card essential; SMSTS/SSSTS and Temporary Works Supervisor/Coordinator advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence.
