Carmichael UK is working with a leading Tier 1 highways contractor to recruit an experienced Section Engineer for a major highways project in Gloucestershire. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of critical earthworks and drainage packages on a high-profile infrastructure scheme.
The Role
As Section Engineer, you will take responsibility for managing the engineering delivery within your section of works, ensuring activities are delivered safely, to programme, and in line with specification. You will work closely with site management, Site Engineers, and subcontractors to drive progress on site.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage engineering delivery for earthworks and drainage works

Oversee bulk earthworks, cut & fill, formation, and ground preparation

Manage drainage works including deep drainage, attenuation, and culverts

Supervise Site Engineers and coordinate subcontractors on site

Ensure works comply with drawings, specifications, RAMS, and ITPs

Manage QA documentation, as-built records, and technical queries

Support short-term planning, look-ahead programmes, and progress reporting

Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance
About You

Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering

Proven experience as a Section Engineer on highways or major civil engineering projects

Earthworks and drainage experience is essential

Experience working for a Tier 1 or major civil engineering contractor

Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills

CSCS card (essential); SMSTS desirable
