Carmichael are seeking a Section Engineer to join the team based on the Lower Thames project

 

Health, Safety & Wellbeing: To understand and to always fully comply with our LTC ‘Beyond Zero Harm’ programme and the 4 BB Golden Rules. ‘Beyond Zero Harm requires your commitment to improving your wellbeing and that of your colleagues as well as the communities you are working in. Alongside others you will champion the Beyond Zero Harm initiative by promoting and encouraging wellbeing for all. You will contribute to the observation process by notifying a minimum of one observation per week relating to either a safety issue or a good practice. You will produce specific Works Package Plans. You will conduct and record weekly safety tours.

Programme and Production: Produce three-week lookahead programmes aligned with the stage programme. Monitor progress, record and report any variances to the weekly programme. You will receive training in Lean Production techniques and be responsible for identifying and reducing waste as well as identifying and pursuing innovative solutions to improve efficiency.

Engineering & Design Management: Review both permanent and temporary design drawings in advance of the works. Resolve any questions with the designers before preparing the programme. Provide advice guidance and coaching to engineers in specifications, standards and setting out.

Quality Assurance: Obtain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs,) for self-delivered works and refine them in line with LTC specifications and standards. Similarly, obtain and review subcontractor ITPs. Perform weekly audits of Site Engineer reports and records. Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when necessary, agree corrective actions and make sure actions are closed out within the agreed timescale. Produce Material Approvals for self-delivered works and review subcontractor submissions.

Environmental Sustainability & Carbon: Your lookahead programmes, Works Package Plans, ITPs, and other relevant documents will be prepared in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan and project carbon commitments. You will monitor compliance on site and report any breaches to your Package Manager and our Environmental team.

Cost Management/Commercial: Your three-week lookahead programmes will be comprehensively resourced in agreement with the Senior Supervisor and it will be in line with the stage programme. You will escalate any deviations to the Package Manager as soon as identified. Confirm that resource usage is accurately recorded by the supervisors and by the site engineers.

Procurement: Delegate requisition responsibilities to the Site Engineer or Logistics team whilst ensuring plant and materials is in line with the cost plan and specification. Train Site Engineers on the requisition process and monitor adherence.

Handover: Produce/approve redlines and compile construction certificates. Provide input into the O&M manuals and H&S files for the assigned scope.

Leadership: You will lead and coach Site Engineers and Apprentices.

 

The candidate would ideally have experience in the following:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably on large scale infrastructure projects
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Knowledge of construction regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

 

Qualifications, Competency & prerequisites

  • Engineering or Construction Management qualification
  • Full UK drivers’ licence
  • A fit for work medical
  • CSCS
  • Pre-Start drug & alcohol test
  • BPSS Security Clearance. This will be completed by the project Security Manager however it will require the candidate to supply a basic Disclosure and Barring Service check.
