An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced MEICA Design Manager with a strong technical Electrical Engineering background to work on a major Central London Tunnel project.
Previous experience in MEP fitout, Fire Suppression, Lighting, Ventilation, Comms, Signalling in a rail / roadways / utilities tunnel environment is highly desired.
Candidates with both main contractor field experience in addition to electrical design with a consultancy are highly encouraged to apply.
This key role will require interfacing with architectural designers / consulting engineers / main contractors. The ideal candidate will have had significant UK experience in the design and construction of MEICA deliverables (electrical bias).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Reporting to the Project Manager
- Produce a Design Plan for MEICA and assist with the development of the management plans for Design and Engineering delivery, system integration / T & C
- Work through contract information to fully understand the scope of work and how systems are designed to work.
- Identify and verify design deliverables and parties responsible for delivering them.
- Assist with the identification and management of interdependencies between disparate designers.
- Ensure concepts are agreed, fixed and established, particularly in relation to fire life safety requirements.
- Ensure the tunnel layout and design has accommodations for the efficient installation of MEICA systems.
- Ensure the tunnel layout and design has accommodations for the life safety requirements.
- Establish and agree the split between consultant and supplier designed elements.
- Ensure the 3D model is managed and is up to date.
- Ensure document management follows establish digital protocols.
- Manage change, TQ’s and RFI’s.
- The individual will identify design resources required and put a team in place.
- Hold and manage design reviews.
- Plan and manage the outputs from HAZOP/ HAZID and access/lifting/ maintenance reviews.
- Ensure all design output is checked internally.
- Manage document submissions and responses from the technical approval authority.
- Prepare design and build subcontract enquiry packages
- Liaise with the installation team.
- Document and manage change throughout the build.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree/ HND qualified engineer in Electrical Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering or Industrial Control Systems - Chartered Status highly desirable
- Experience as an Electrical Design Engineer
- Experience working on large scale terminal / station / roadways tunnel construction projects as a Design Manager
- High degree of technical design knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication
