Carmichael are recruiting for a Senior Engineer on behalf of a successful Civils Contractor on a pipeline Project.
The Site engineer will be working on the £800M expansion of an oil refinery plant, including reinforced concrete and foundations.

Project Management
  • Make effective use of document control to manage distribution of information.
  • Participates in knowledge share events, ensures Site Engineers / Operatives are made aware of relevant information.
  • Understands construction methodology and Develops / Approves relevant procedures specific to their area of works.
  • In association with the Section Foreman, assess the plant and resource requirements to meet the demands of site and office-based works.
  • Produce / Approve method statements and risk assessments and ensure they are being followed throughout the works.
  • Ensure Site Engineers complete setting out in accordance with design.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with design.
  • Ensure Design Drawings are marked up to reflect works completed as the works are finished.
  • Liaise with other Section Engineers / Foremen to ensure any clashes on site are managed to ensure a smooth flow of work.
  • Regularly review procedures to ensure they are as efficient as possible.
  • Be familiar with LEAN procedures and apply them where possible.
  • Understands construction methodology and implements it specific to their area of works.
  • Have a good working knowledge of plant and resource requirements to meet the demands of site and office-based works.
  • Assist the business/project in achieving the objectives/targets set in the Taylor Woodrow Carbon Strategy within your specific work activities.
Financial Management / Systems
  • Monitor the accuracy of site reporting such as record sheets, site instructions etc.  Ensure all relevant documents are completed at appropriate times.
  • Understand that sections of work have an allocated cost and ensure this is maintained or improved on.
  • Understand the commercial implications behind decisions.
Quality
  • Communicates VCUK quality policy and systems to subcontractors and supplier and ensures they are applied.
  • Produces procedures to ensure that the works proceed in accordance with best practice and design.
  • Supervises the on-site inspection process and ensures all inspections are completed on time.  Ensure all checksheets are completed and filed in the appropriate file.  Ensure all “Red line drawings” are completed as the works progress.
  • Seeks out opportunities for improvement, to overcome problems and to mitigate risk.
  • Ensure inspections are completed in accordance with Risk Assessments (RA) and Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
Engineering
  • Identifies a choice of engineering systems on the basis of personal experience.
  • Evaluates and selects from options based on evidence from various sources.
  • Able to understand new and innovative technologies.
  • Ensures work is completed to the expected standard and in accordance with provided information.
  • Ensures outcomes are recorded and advises others on potential improvements.
  • Seeks opportunities to improve on provided information for commercial or practical benefit.
  • Identifies and defines problems that require a solution then provide the solution, with assistance if necessary.
  • Engages with designers and specialists to develop conceptual and detailed solutions.
  • Consider all procedures on a regular basis to ensure they are as efficient as possible.
  • Be familiar with LEAN procedures and apply them where possible.
BIM
  • Understanding of the principles of Building Information Modelling (BIM), the requirements for BIM level 2, the supporting documentation and standards, and the barriers of implementation.  Appreciation of the value of high-quality data and principles of data management along with the controls required to protect the security of digitally built assets.
  • Monitors and reports on health and safety, incident management, BIM Implementation and business continuity risk within their area of responsibility.
Supports the use of IT to achieve efficiency in service delivery.  Understanding the technical, technology and interoperability requirements for BIM Level 2.
