About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to lead and oversee hard landscaping works across infrastructure and civils projects. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and workmanship.
This role requires a technically skilled and hands-on professional who can manage on-site engineering operations, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure precise setting out for all aspects of hard landscaping—including paving, kerbing, retaining structures, drainage, and street furniture installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering activities for hard landscaping projects from inception to completion.
- Carry out accurate setting out, levelling, and surveying using total stations and GPS equipment.
- Supervise and coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient work sequencing and delivery.
- Monitor and control quality assurance, ensuring compliance with project specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
- Ensure that health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained on site at all times.
- Prepare and maintain as-built drawings, site records, and progress reports.
- Assist the Project Manager with programme planning, resource allocation, and progress tracking.
- Liaise with design teams, architects, landscape architects, and clients to resolve technical and design-related queries.
- Oversee installation of paving, kerbs, steps, walls, planters, drainage systems, street furniture, and other hard landscape features.
- Identify and report design discrepancies, construction risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Requirements
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a Senior Engineer or similar role in civil or landscaping projects.
- Proven background in hard landscaping, external works, or public realm construction.
- Strong understanding of groundworks, paving layouts, and surface finishes.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, total station/GPS instruments, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid CSCS card, and ideally SMSTS / SSSTS certification.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience with high-end urban realm or commercial landscape projects.
- Knowledge of BIM workflows and digital site management tools.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and site supervisors.
