Carmichael are seeking an experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join the team working on a major project based in Southwark, London.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Establish and provide leadership in best practice in safety, health and sustainability matters on the project
Advise and support Directors, Managers and Supervisors to discharge their H&S responsibilities regarding their employees and others to whom they have a duty as defined by Legislation and Procedures
Liaise with Client on a regular basis, being able to establish positive relationships and trust
Lead on ad-hoc health and safety projects i.e. Improvement Plans, Supervisor Development Programmes etc etc as required by the Project Director and the Client
Ensure management controls are in place so that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and to provide advice as and when required
Take a lead with site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated by the team
If required, lead junior H&S Advisors ensuring support is provided as required
Contribute to a culture of “Everyone Home Safe and Healthy every day”
Manage & carry out surveillance/ regular inspections / audits of sites and workplaces to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with the Policy, Procedures and the relevant Statutory Provisions. Where appropriate make recommendations for improvement.
Follow up on any required outcomes from inspections that have been carried out on sites
Lead, partake and oversee accident / incident investigations in accordance with the procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences
Manage, collate & review H&S statistics on HMJV to identify trends and areas for improvement
Develop and implement lessons learnt sessions, H&S campaigns and improvement plans in agreement
Assist the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager in the development, organisation and delivery of the induction process; ensuring everyone has attended a Project Induction and HUB day
Manage and where required be involved in the preparation & review of documents including H&S plans and procedures, method statements and those of 3rd parties
Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, procedures and Contract Requirements
Provide reports, presentations and information as directed
Ensure compliance with all relevant Schedule of Partners KPIs
Stop work at any time H&S elements of the works are in question
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Relevant H&S Membership at Senior Level (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, IEMA, CQI)
Extensive experience in a H&S role, preferably in tunnelling industry
Solid understanding of the requirements of the ISO 9001, 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 standards
MS package knowledge (e.g Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project)
Commercial and contractual awareness
